Music is such a pretty thing. Everyone has some favourite songs possessing a special meaning to them. It can be the song you had your first kiss on. The track that was played on your wedding. The song that played in the store when you got your first maternity bra (zwangerschapslingerie in Dutch). Or the favorite song of your now dead father. These songs stick with you for your whole life. They are tangible when you hear them and some can even give you goosebumps. In a way they're engrained in your DNA.
Did you ever hear somebody say you should play classical music when your baby is still in your belly? Or heard a story from a friend where they felt their baby reacting to certain songs while she carried it? This is thanks to the fact that music is so special and is one of the first things that may cause emotions apart from hunger and discomfort. You could not do your kid a better favour then to discover early on what music they like and play it for them a lot! Not only will it keep them happy, if they’ve a concealed musical talent you may be sure it will surface early!
My very own daughter had a special liking for jazz. Not because she knows all the classics but because it’s the only genre she has heard from before she was born. Now that she is 3 she would rather hear Micheal Buble and Sinatra than some of those horrible high pitched children songs! Thank the Lord for that.
Another thing that is developed with an early exposure to music is a good sense of rhythm. Those tiny hips will begin to sway before they have even the slightest idea of what dancing is. It might look like a dancing monkey initially, nonetheless it will quickly develop into tangible rhythmic dancing!
Do your kids a favor and play them a wide variety of music, lot’s of it!
Salmsed Turns is a dutch writer with a particular loveof baby related subjects. This is thanks to the fact that he has just become father of a lovely young girl. Bored with all of the kraamcadeaus he found an outlet for that in his writing. Other subjects he likes are (in Dutch) : Zwangerschapslingerie en Luiertassen.
